When You Need Repair

When You Need Washer & Dryer Repair in Southwest Florida

Laundry equipment fails in a handful of repeatable patterns, and the pattern usually tells us what's wrong before we open the panel. Here's what we see across Naples, Marco Island, Cape Coral, and Fort Myers homes most often, ordered from simple to involved.

Washer won't drain or spin

Most often it's the drain pump — either jammed by a coin, hairpin, or piece of fabric that worked past the filter, or the pump motor itself has failed. Less often, the pressure sensor (the part that tells the machine the tub is empty) is stuck, so the cycle never advances. On front-loaders that won't spin, the door switch interlock or lid lock circuit is a common culprit before we look at the motor. The right diagnostic order avoids tearing down half the machine for a five-minute fix.

Washer leaking — from the gasket, hoses, or under the tub

Water on the laundry-room floor is almost always one of three specific things. The front-load door gasket has a tear or trapped debris that breaks the seal. The internal rubber hose connections between the tub, pump, and pressure switch have loosened or perished from heat and detergent. Or — the scariest one — the inlet supply hose at the back has cracked or burst. That last one is the single biggest cause of catastrophic water damage in Naples and Marco Island vacation homes when nobody's there to hear it.

Front-load gasket mold and smell

Florida humidity makes this almost inevitable on any front-loader more than two or three years old. The rubber door gasket has multiple folds that trap water and detergent residue; biological growth follows fast — especially in closed laundry rooms with no airflow. Sometimes the gasket cleans up; sometimes it needs replacement, and the drum seal too. We bring fresh OEM gaskets for LG, Samsung, Whirlpool Duet, Maytag, and Speed Queen.

Washer shakes, walks, or makes loud spin noise

Front-loaders with violent shaking and walking are usually a worn suspension — the four shock absorbers under the tub have lost dampening, so an unbalanced load slams the cabinet. A loud grinding noise during spin, especially at top speed, is almost always the tub bearing — a more involved repair, but a real one with parts available for most brands. We diagnose by sound first to confirm before we open anything.

Dryer not heating

On electric dryers, the heating element has burned out, the thermal fuse has tripped (almost always because the vent is clogged), or the high-limit thermostat has failed. We see thermal fuses pop weekly during peak Florida humidity months because Florida dryer vents accumulate lint faster than dry climates assume. On gas dryers, the igniter has worn out — typical at six to eight years on Naples luxury laundry rooms with heavy weekly volume.

Dryer dries but takes two or three cycles

This is one of the most under-diagnosed problems we see. The dryer heats, the drum turns, the cycle runs — but clothes come out damp. The cause is almost always the vent (clogged or too long), the moisture sensor inside the drum has failed, or the thermistor that controls cycle timing has drifted. Two-cycle drying doubles your energy bill and is a fire risk if it's vent-related. Worth diagnosing the first time you notice it.

Dryer overheating, shutting off, or drum won't turn

A dryer that gets too hot to touch and shuts itself off has a failed cycling thermostat or a drifted thermistor — the temperature sensor isn't reporting accurately, and the safety circuit is cutting power. A drum that won't turn at all is the drive belt (most common), the idler pulley, or rarely the motor. Squealing during operation is the idler bearing — replace, don't lubricate; the bearing reseizes fast.

Reading these patterns is half the diagnostic — and where most homeowner guessing goes sideways. The other half is meter-testing components in the right order with years of LG, Samsung, Whirlpool, Speed Queen, and Maytag pattern recognition. Call (239) 544-4666 — most washer and dryer repairs are diagnosed in 20 minutes and resolved the same visit.

Why Things Fail Here

Why Washers & Dryers Fail in Southwest Florida

Laundry equipment in Naples, Marco Island, and Cape Coral lives in a different environment than the manufacturer's design assumptions. Local factors drive failure modes you don't see in dry climates.

Humidity guarantees front-load mold

Florida laundry rooms — especially the closed, interior ones standard in most Naples homes — sit at 65–75% relative humidity year-round. The folds in a front-load door gasket hold moisture between cycles long enough for biological growth to colonize. By year three you can smell it; by year five the gasket needs replacement. We see this pattern on every brand of front-loader sold in this market.

Hot attic dryer vents accelerate lint buildup and fire risk

A dryer vented through a hot Florida attic runs warmer air through a longer, less-cooled duct than the manufacturer specs assume. Moist warm lint condenses inside the duct wall and accumulates faster than in cooler climates. A clogged vent does three things: it slows drying (you run double cycles, doubling wear), it overheats the dryer (popping thermal fuses), and it creates a real fire hazard. We recommend annual professional vent cleaning for any Florida dryer with attic ducting.

Hard water scales valves and heating elements

Cape Coral, Golden Gate, and inland Bonita Springs run on well water heavy with calcium and iron. Within two to three years, scale builds up on the water inlet valves and inside the wash-water heating element on premium models like Miele and Bosch. Symptoms: slow fills, partial cycles, weak hot water. A whole-house softener slows it; routine valve service handles the rest.

Snowbird cycling — six months off, two weeks on

Vacation-home laundry equipment sits for months, then runs hard for visits. Door gaskets dry out and crack; pump impellers seize; biological growth blooms during the off-season. We service hundreds of seasonal Naples and Lely homes every year — owners arrive expecting their machines to "just work," then find the washer leaking on day one. A pre-arrival inspection prevents that.

Inlet supply hoses burst when nobody's home

This is the single most expensive washer-related failure in Southwest Florida. The rubber inlet hoses behind the machine are under municipal water pressure 24/7, even when the washer isn't running. A perished hose can burst at any moment — and if the owner is in New York for the summer, by the time someone notices, the damage is catastrophic. We replace these hoses preventively with stainless-braided lines on every snowbird home service visit.

Power surges from afternoon storms

Florida averages 70–90 lightning days a year. Modern washers and dryers are full of electronics — main control boards, motor control boards, user interface boards — and all of them are surge-vulnerable. After Ian, Helene, and Milton, we replaced a steady stream of fried boards on LG, Samsung, and high-end Whirlpool laundry pairs. Whole-home surge protection helps; nothing eliminates the risk completely.

Options & Methods

Washer & Dryer Repair Options & Methods

Naples condo laundry closets, Pelican Bay tower stacks, Cape Coral canal-home laundry rooms, and Fort Myers single-family laundry rooms all run a wide mix of washer and dryer platforms. Each brand has its own diagnostic discipline. Here are the laundry brands we service most weeks of the year.

Miele

The German laundry benchmark. W1 Classic front-load washers and TwinDos detergent systems, T1 heat-pump dryers. 20-year service life routinely in Naples condo and Pelican Bay tower laundry closets.

Samsung

Korean premium — FlexWash dual-compartment, smart-connected front-loads and top-loads, matching dryers. Common in Naples newer condos and Cape Coral remodels.

LG

TurboWash front-loads, the WashTower stacked system, ThinQ smart-connected models. Strong category engineering, heavy density in Naples and Cape Coral newer construction.

Whirlpool

High-volume mainstream — Cabrio top-load, Centennial, Duet front-load generations. Heaviest density in Cape Coral, Fort Myers, and rental properties across our coverage area.

Maytag

Whirlpool-family laundry-specialist — Bravos top-load, Centennial, commercial-grade home models. The volume-rental and family-laundry workhorse across Cape Coral and Fort Myers.

Kenmore

Legacy Sears multi-OEM — top-load and front-load washers and matching dryers built by various OEMs depending on model prefix. Common in older homes and long-tenured rentals across the region.

Electrolux

European-engineered premium mainstream — Pure Wash front-loads, Perfect Steam dryers. Common in Naples condo laundry closets and Pelican Bay tower stacks.

Whichever washer or dryer brand sits in your laundry, we arrive with the right diagnostic and parts on the truck. Call (239) 544-4666.

Repair Or Replace

Repair or Replace? How to Decide

Washer and dryer math is different by brand tier and by failure type. We give straight answers — the right call isn't always "repair," and we'll tell you when it isn't.

Premium (Speed Queen, Miele, Asko, Bosch 800-series)

Repair, almost always. Speed Queen commercial-grade laundry is built for 25+ years of routine repair; Miele and Asko aren't far behind. These machines reward proper maintenance, and parts availability is excellent long-term. The exception: catastrophic transmission or sealed-system failure on a unit already past year 18 — at that point, even a premium repair-friendly unit hits diminishing returns.

Mid-tier front-load (LG, Samsung, Whirlpool Duet, Maytag premium)

The 50% rule applies here, with a real consideration: some LG and Samsung model years have systemic bearing or motor problems that make a "repair" likely to repeat. We'll tell you which model and serial range is flagged. For a routine pump or sensor on a five-year-old front-loader, repair is easy. For a tub bearing on a nine-year-old unit, we sit down with the math first.

Top-load (Whirlpool, GE, Maytag traditional, Speed Queen TR)

Top-loaders are simpler and last longer per repair. A 12-year-old Whirlpool top-loader with a pump failure is a straightforward repair we recommend. The exceptions are the high-efficiency low-water top-loaders Whirlpool and GE built around 2014–2018 — those had transmission issues, and we'll flag your model.

Basic (Frigidaire, Amana, Hotpoint, base GE laundry)

Replacement-leaning past year 8. A burned heating element or simple pump is still worth repairing. A control board failure or motor swap on a basic unit at year 9-plus usually isn't — the labor alone gets close to the cost of a new unit.

Age Cutoffs We Apply
  • Speed Queen / Miele / Asko: repair through year 22
  • Mid-tier front-load (LG, Samsung, Whirlpool premium): case-by-case from year 8
  • Top-loaders (Whirlpool, GE, Maytag): repair-leaning through year 14
  • Basic: replacement-leaning from year 8

When we tell you to replace — often. We're a repair business, but we don't take a job we don't believe is the right move. If the math says replace, the technician says so on the diagnostic visit, and the diagnostic fee is the only thing you owe.

Frequently Asked

Washer & Dryer Repair FAQ

Questions we field most often on washer and dryer repair — pulled directly from the calls we take across Naples, Marco Island, and the rest of Southwest Florida.

How much does washer or dryer repair cost?

The $69 diagnostic visit gives a written estimate. Common single-visit repairs — drain pump, lid lock, shift actuator, drive belt, thermal fuse, heating element — fall in a predictable range. Motor controls and basket bearing replacements cost more. Diagnostic fee applies toward the repair.

Washer won't drain — what's wrong?

Top-load: clogged drain pump filter, failed pump impeller, or blocked drain hose. Front-load: same plus door-boot debris trapping pump filter. Less often: pressure switch or control board fault. The diagnostic visit identifies the specific cause in 15-20 minutes.

Dryer not heating — fix?

Gas dryer: blown thermal fuse (vent restriction is usually upstream cause), failed heating element, gas valve coils, or igniter. Electric dryer: same diagnostic less the gas-side parts. The single biggest cause of repeat dryer-heating calls in Florida is improper vent cleaning.

Should I clean my dryer vent?

Yes — regularly. Florida humidity combined with lint buildup is the leading cause of dryer thermal fuse failure and a major contributor to residential dryer fires. We recommend professional vent cleaning every twelve to eighteen months in Naples condos, more often in heavy-use family laundry rooms.

How long should a washer or dryer last?

Front-load washers (Miele, LG, Samsung, Electrolux) routinely run 12-20 years with regular service. Top-load washers (Whirlpool, Maytag, Kenmore) typically 10-14 years. Volume rental use compresses both timelines. Dryers run on similar service-life curves but heavily depend on vent maintenance.

Do you offer same-day laundry service?

Same-day or next-day for most of our coverage area. Naples, Marco Island, Pelican Bay, and Bonita Springs are typically same-day if you call before noon. Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Estero, and Lely depend on the day's routing. The $69 service call applies toward the repair.
